PhilaU Graphic Design Alums Across the Pond

Philadelphia University Graphic Design alums seem to be everywhere—including across the pond in London! During a trip to the UK to visit prospective schools to have study abroad relationships with in London, Brighton and Glasgow, Scotland, Program Director and Associate Professor, Frank Baseman, had the pleasure of visiting with Kara DeBoeser and Annika Pipkorn (both PhilaU GDC, 2010). Kara is pursuing a Masters degree in Graphic Design at Camberwell College of Art and Annika, originally from Sweden, is looking for work in London. Both alums are living together in London.

First PhilaU Graphic Design NYC Alumni Gathering

The Philadelphia University Graphic Design faculty were joined by over twenty alums of the Graphic Design Communication program for an informal Alumni Gathering in New York City in October, 2010. Representatives from the first class of 1997 all the way through members of the most recent class of 2010 were in attendance at this first-ever event. The Graphic Design faculty in attendance included new faculty member (PhilaU GDC, 1999) Assistant Professor, Gavin Cooper; Associate Professor, Maribeth Kradel-Weitzel; Adjunct Professor (PhilaU GDC, 1997), Mike Kase; and Program Director and Associate Professor, Frank Baseman. More Graphic Design Alumni Gatherings are being planned for the near future, so please stay tuned for further details.

Spring 2010 Lecture Series Poster Wins Award

Program Director and Associate Professor, Frank Baseman, received a Certificate of Excellence Award in the American Graphic Design Award Competition from GD USA Magazine, New York, NY, for the Spring 2010 Lecture Series poster produced for the School of Architecture and School of Design and Media at Philadelphia University.

DiSanto Starts Mentoring Program

Adjunct Professor, Rose DiSanto, founded AIGA Philadelphia’s first mentoring program. Now in its second year, this program pairs seasoned designers with college seniors or young designers in the first five years of their career. Participants this year have included alums Megan Stranger (PhilaU GDC, 2007) and Angela Miles (PhilaU GDC, 2005) as well as Adjunct Professor, Christine Fajardo.

The Graphic Design Communication program at Philadelphia University is pleased to announce that two students from the graduating class of 2010 were recognized for their outstanding work by the 2010 Adobe Design Achievement Awards.
