Professor emeritus Kleinbach hopeful about efforts to thwart bride kidnapping: Catholic News Agency

Russell Kleinbach, professor emeritus of sociology, is hopeful that educational and law enforcement initiatives will stem the practice of bride kidnappings in Kyrgyzstan, the Catholic News Agency reported June 29. Kleinbach, who has worked to halt this practice in the central Asian country for a number of years, including as a Fulbright scholar, said the practice has had devastating effects on the country’s women, but said, “I believe the practice can be significantly reduced very quickly” through efforts he and his colleagues have advanced.
