Fashion Alumni Lecture Series Continues with Under Armour Designer Shannan Carlino ’08 Tuesday, Nov. 22

Shannan Carlino '08 will share about her transition from student to fashion designer.

Philadelphia University’s Fashion Alumni Lecture Series will continue on Tuesday, Nov. 22, with a lecture from Shannan Carlino ’08, a designer at Under Armour. The lecture will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Paul J. Gutman Library media classroom.

Carlino currently works as an on-field designer at Under Armour, the famous performance apparel company headquartered in Baltimore. At PhilaU, Carlino pursued her passion for designing sportswear to create her senior collection entitled “Basketball Meets the Runway,” which utilized pieces of basketball jerseys to create interesting new garments. The collection won honorable mention at the 2008 fashion show for best senior collection.

At Under Armour, Carlino has created apparel for some of the best collegiate and professional athletes. She designed the uniforms for the University of Maryland’s field hockey team, Boston College’s women’s lacrosse team and the Welsh rugby team.

The Fashion Alumni Lecture Series provides students with the opportunity to hear from leading fashion alumni from all aspects of the fashion industry. “Our alumni are our most valuable resource,” said Clara Henry, director of the fashion design program. “What better way for our students to know the possibilities of the industry than from our alums?”

Gianna Cosentino ’02, director of the New Romantics line for Free People, gave the inaugural lecture in the series in October. Click here to read more about Cosentino’s visit.
