Philadelphia University’s undergraduate interior design program was ranked among the top 10 in the country in DesignIntelligence’s 2014 America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools. The rankings are based on DesignIntelligence’s annual survey of hiring firms to determine the schools that best prepare students for success in the profession. PhilaU ranked tenth in the nation.

The program also ranked fourth in the U.S. for collegiate programs deemed strongest in the following skill areas: Computer Applications and Cross-Disciplinary Teamwork.

“The greatest strength of the PhilaU Interior Design Program is its academic rigor paired with interdisciplinary experiences,” said Barbara Klinkhammer, executive dean, College of Architecture and the Built Environment. “Our signature Nexus Learning approach exposes students to collaborative teamwork across a full range of disciplines in the built environment, preparing them for today’s challenges of working in a global marketplace.”

Lauren Baumbach, director of PhilaU’s Interior Design program, received the 2012 Council for Interior Design Accreditation Innovation in Interior Design Education Merit Award and the program has been featured in Interior Design magazine.

“PhilaU’s interior design program succeeds because it provides a rigorous and comprehensive education that is forward-looking and attuned to the profession,” Baumbach said. “Our students learn to be creative innovators grounded by an understanding of design theory, precedent, construction technology and digital technology, all of which are tempered by a solid foundation in the humanities.”

“The recent ranking of PhilaU’s Interior Design Program as one of the top ten programs in the nation among hundreds of interior design programs shows the excellent reputation that our program has in preparing our students for success in the profession,” Klinkhammer said.

DesignIntelligence is the Design Futures Council’s report on the future of the design community. As the foremost authority in the country’s sphere of design experts, its rankings are influential and highly regarded in the field.
