Philadelphia University has welcomed three new members to its Board of Trustees this year: Carson Kressley H’13, Emmy Award-winning fashion celebrity; Arthur Rubenstein, former dean, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine; and William Jasper, Unifi, Inc. chairman and CEO.

“Philadelphia University is the model for university professional education,” President Stephen Spinelli Jr. said.  “These new trustees have world-class reputations in very diverse fields: fashion design, business and health. They will continue to accelerate our advanced curriculum and overall service to students who seek to be leaders in their professional careers.”

Kressley is known for his Emmy Award-winning performance on Bravo’s breakthrough hit “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.”  He is also recognized for his roles on the hit shows “How to Look Good Naked,” “Dancing with the Stars” and “Carson Nation.” Kressley is a New York Times best-selling author of three books and strong supporter of philanthropic causes, including human rights, LGBT and AIDS charities. Kressley was awarded the honorary degree Doctor of Humane Letters and spoke at PhilaU’s 2013 Commencement ceremony. Kressley recently launched a new clothing line, Love, Carson.

Rubenstein, who earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Witwatersrand in his native South Africa, spent the early part of his career researching diabetes in the U.S. He later was named dean of The University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and vice president of the University’s health system, a position he held until his retirement in June 2011.

Rubenstein is the author of more than 350 publications and has held editorial advisory positions with several respected journals, including Annals of Internal Medicine and Journal of Diabetes and its Complications.  He is a Fellow of the College of Medicine of South Africa and of the Royal College of Physicians of London.

Jasper became chairman of the Board of Unifi, Inc., a leading producer and processor of multi-filament polyester and nylon textured yarns, in February 2011. He has served as CEO and a member of its board of directors since September 2007. Before joining Unifi, Jasper was the director of INVISTA’s DACRON® polyester filament business and held various management positions at DuPont. Jasper was awarded the Leader of Innovation Medal by Philadelphia University at the 2012 Innovation Gala for outstanding contributions to his field.

Philadelphia University now has 29 members on its Board of Trustees.
