Industrial Design Professor Mark Havens Captures Classic Shore Motels in Photos: The New York Times

Mark Havens, assistant professor of industrial design, has captured the classic kitschiness of mid-century motels in the Jersey shore towns of the Wildwoods in his photo series “Out of Season,” The New York Times reported July 26.  In 10 years of photographing the iconic structures, replete with kidney-shaped pools and neon flashing lights, Havens amassed more than 13,000 images that he said bring out “the interplay of an idealized past and its inexorable disappearance.”
