PhilaU Bridal Exhibit Evokes History Through Design: The Roxborough Review

Philadelphia University’s new exhibit, “The Swan: Grace Kelly and A Century of Bridal Fashions,” featuring a replica of the gown worn by Grace Kelly at her 1956 wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco, evokes the history of the various time periods, The Roxborough Review reported April 7.

The exhibit features nine wedding dresses from the 1850s through the 1960s that are part of The Design Center’s Textile and Costume Collection, three fashion student wedding designs, as well as shoes and other accessories.

“Our textile and costume collection has about 35,000 pieces in it and we have a great number of wedding dresses,” Design Center Curator Marcella Martin said. “It’s one of those things that people hold on to.”

The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be on display in the Paul J. Gutman Library through June 24.
