Philadelphia University engineering senior Shana Kaplan has received the $1,500 Susan Miszkowicz September 11 Memorial Scholarship from the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Kaplan is the vice president of the newly formed PhilaU chapter of SWE. In its first year, the chapter held many successful events, she said, including a well-attended career panel with PhilaU engineering alumnae and a bench press competition fundraiser that raised over $700.

She also was recently part of a transdisciplinary team of PhilaU students who won the top prize in a U.S. Department of Defense challenge to redesign protective chemical-biological suits for military troops.
