Frank Baseman’s exhibit, “Rebus Quotes and Other Typographic Explorations,” opens Sept. 22.

Frank Baseman, professor and director of the graphic design communication program at Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University), will have his work on display at Penn State University starting next month.

The “Rebus Quotes and Other Typographic Explorations” exhibit brings together two of Baseman’s favorite long-term interests: letterpress printing, a centuries-old method of putting ink to paper, and rebuses, words and images coming together to make a visual puzzle (for example, “I Heart NY”). He completed much of the work while on a recent sabbatical from Jefferson.

“Rebus Quotes and Other Typographic Explorations” runs Sept. 22 to Oct. 27 in the Rouse Gallery, Stuckeman Family Building, at Penn State University. The gallery talk takes place Friday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m., followed by a reception.
