Prospective students, parents and guests will experience “a taste of life in our programs” at Discover Fashion and Textiles Day on Oct. 24, said Marcia Weiss, director of the Fashion and Textiles Futures Center and associate professor of textile design at Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University).

“It’s a wonderful chance to learn more about Jefferson and the exciting areas in which our students and alumni thrive,” she said.

The day will offer an in-depth look at Jefferson’s fashion and textile programs, featuring program meetings, a tour of the Fashion and Textiles Futures Center, classroom visits, a session exploring the majors and an alumni panel, including Katherine Cavaliere ’15, regional assistant for Gap, and Brittany DeColli ’16, product development coordinator at Coach.

An alumni panel will offer insights into the University’s fashion and textile programs.

Textile design student Becka Meschler said attending last year’s event solidified her decision to come to Jefferson. “I fell in love with the school this day, especially after hearing all the amazing things alumni did,” she said.

The 2016 Discovery Day also swayed fashion merchandising and management student Evelyn Cuko. She had applied to nine different schools and narrowed down her choices to the Fashion Institute of Technology and Jefferson.

“I was stuck between the two,” she recalled. “It wasn’t until I went to Fashion and Textiles Day that I realized Jefferson was the school for me. They didn’t just talk about the school statistics. They talked about how this program is unique in how it sets up its students to succeed, which was different. But what stood out to me the most was Jefferson showed that I wouldn’t be just a number. I mattered.”

Fashion merchandising and management student Amirah Hutchison had a similar experience last year and left campus knowing she would choose the right path by committing to Jefferson.

“I gained a deeper view on what you can accomplish within the fashion industry,” she said. “I saw that Jefferson is filled with faculty members who will help you reach every goal and will still work with you once you’ve reached the top. I could tell these professors would do whatever it takes to bring out the best in us.”

Discover Fashion and Textiles Day is Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jefferson’s East Falls campus. Visit here to register.
