The call for submissions is open for Top Ram, a business model competition that gives students the chance to pitch their creative ideas, receive valuable feedback and win cash prizes and the Matt Glass Award for Entrepreneurship.

Open to undergraduate and graduate students at Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University), the competition seeks innovative, impactful and viable business models. They can pitch an original concept or use one developed in a course.

“Students should certainly enter the competition to validate their ideas,” urged Abena Nyarko, program coordinator at Blackstone LaunchPad at Jefferson, which sponsors Top Ram. “Presenting to the judges can help push them to make their dream a reality.”

The 2015 Top Ram winner, Renee Kakareka ’16, won for her assistive technology company Olive Devices. She was accepted to the Angel Venture Fair the following semester and went on to win $5,000 in the JAZ Tank pitch competition. She soon will have a prototype ready for her smart glasses to help the hearing impaired.

Physician assistant studies student Amanda McCreight won Top Ram last year for Mark Your Map, an app that allows people to map their footprints around the world and organize their trip memories. Inspired by her love of travel, she received $1,500 and three months of office space from Make Offices.

“While this entrepreneurial experience is not the traditional internship, the skills and knowledge attained pursuing an entrepreneurial venture is just as valuable,” Nyarko said. “You end up taking on numerous roles to succeed: HR, research, business strategy and development, marketing, product design and development, management and so much more.”

Entries must be submitted by Nov. 22, and the finalists will be announced Dec. 1. Visit here for more details on how to enter.
