Architecture and the Built Environment Lecture Series Starts Jan. 29 with James Carpenter

James Carpenter, award-winning founder of New York firm James Carpenter Design Associates, will kick off the College of Architecture and the Built Environment’s Spring 2018 Lecture Series on Jan. 29.

Carpenter has worked at the intersection of art, engineering and the built environment for nearly 50 years, advancing a distinctive vision based on the use of natural light and glass as the foundational elements of the built environment.

His firm’s major cultural projects include Israel Museum’s expansion and campus renewal in Jerusalem; the expansion of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Museum at the St. Louis Arch grounds; and the new Bornholm Cultural Museum and Art Museum Expansion in Bornholm, Denmark.

Carpenter has been recognized with numerous national and international awards, including an Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.

The lectures, which will take place on the East Falls campus of Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University), are free and open to the University community and the public. They will be held at the Jack and Betty Merriam Auditorium in the Tuttleman Center at 6 p.m.
