Professor Renee Walker Keynote Speaker at Phoenix Design Week

news_faculty_renee_phx1Assistant Professor Renee Walker and her business partner Heidi Meredith were invited to be keynote speakers at Phoenix Design Week’s Method & Madness Conference. They spoke about their bi-coastal studio Gold Collective. The theme Method & Madness was a perfect fit for Gold as they are known for their experimental making techniques and non-traditional studio practices.

In their talk they addressed the challenges of working on separate coasts while still bringing a collaborative hands-on process to projects whenever possible. Personal projects like a prompt-based blog called Gold Today and how they use Google Hangouts as their virtual office space were among the topics they discussed. They also spoke to the added madness of running a successful design business while adapting to the role of being mothers, a conversation that they feel is important to have among a design community made up of many young women.
